A Specialist Anaesthetist is required to join the current team of eight Paediatric Anaesthetists due to the increasing paediatric surgical needs. This is a permanent full-time position based at Christchurch Hospital and includes participation in the out of hours on-call paediatric anaesthesia roster. This position also includes the provision of adult anaesthesia.

The Anaesthetic Department provides anaesthesia services in Christchurch for the Canterbury District Health Board (CDHB). Within the CDHB, Women’s and Children’s Health serves an immediate population of 400,000 and is a tertiary referral centre in the South Island of New Zealand.

Paediatric Services are provided for neonates onwards in areas of general surgery, urology, plastic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, ophthalmology and orthopaedics. Dental, radiological and paediatric procedure sessions form part of our workload and the Department is integral in supporting the Children’s oncology unit. Women’s and Children’s Health have two inpatient paediatric wards and a tertiary level neonatal unit.

Applicants for the Specialist position must have a qualification recognised for vocational registration by the Medical Council of New Zealand.
